Pangborn Piranhas

The following explanations provide descriptions for our volunteer jobs for the swim meets. Please refer to the volunteer schedule for your assignments, and then read these descriptions carefully to learn the process.

Bullpen Parents

• Help all swimmers to the deck as soon as their event is called.
• Help swimmers to wait behind or adjacent to the starting area until the starter takes over control of the race. If they leave the area, it will be their responsibility to return in time for their heat or event.

Announcer

• Keep abreast of meet progress
• Announce upcoming events 2 events in advance with first and second calls to ensure swimmers are on deck and at their assigned lanes
• Watch Event Board to ensure the event and heat displayed are consistent with meet progress.
• The Announcer is the key person to ensure the meet runs smoothly and in a timely manner
• Work closely and communicate well with the Starter

Place Judges

1. Each team shall provide two place judges
2. Two place judges (one from each team) shall be stationed at the finish end of the pool. The place judges must be positioned to have a clear view of the finish
3. The judges will determine the order-of-finish for each heat. One place judge will observe and speak the order of finish to the other place judge who will record the results on the appropriate form.

Timers

1. Timers will begin timing at the starter’s signal, not when the swimmer leaves the block.
2. The timer shall stop the watch immediately when any part of the swimmer’s body touches the finish end of the pool, or course, as defined in the USA Swimming rulebook.
3. The timer shall record times on the event cards provided by each team.

Runners

1. Runners shall collect event times from the timers and take them to the scorers’ table.

Ribbon Writers

Ribbon writers shall be responsible for the entering the swimmers scores & placement in computer once given the official finish from the scoring table.

Scorer/Computer

Scorer or Computer person shall be responsible for setting up the meets on Swimtopia, printing out Heat Sheets, Place Judge forms, Timing and Scoring sheets, Ribbon stickers, and entering times into Swimtopia for each swimmer for every heat in each event.
